DANNI O’NEILL SOPRANO

Danni is a distinguished graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, where she completed her Master’s degree with distinction on the Preparatory Opera Course, supported in part by a scholarship. She studied under Raymond Connell and received coaching from James Baillieu. During her time at the Academy, she was awarded the Michael Head Prize for English Song in her first year and regularly appeared as a soloist in the Bach European Series. Notable performances included Solo Cantata BWV 202 with Rachel Podger, BWV 146 with John Butt, and collaborations with Iain Leddingham, Masaaki Suzuki, and Eamonn Dougan. She performed with the Academy Voices ensemble and was awarded the prestigious DipRAM for an outstanding final recital. Her studies and international travel were generously supported by Mr. David Williams, The Streynshams Trust, and her Academy scholarship.

Recently, Danni made her solo ensemble debut at Wigmore Hall with Solomons Knott, appeared on BBC Radio 3, and recorded Der Wald by Ethel Smyth with the BBC Singers. She has performed as a soprano soloist with Instruments of Time and Truth under Edward Higginbottom, and made her professional opera chorus debut at the Lille and Luxembourg Opera Houses in productions of Dido and Aeneas (Purcell) and Semele (Handel) with Le Concert d’Astrée, conducted by Emmanuelle Haïm. She is also a regular member of the choir at St Paul’s Church, Knightsbridge.

In 2018, Danni graduated from Royal Holloway, University of London, where she was a choral scholar and winner of the University Chamber Music Prize. Prior to her master’s studies, she was a member of the NYCGB Fellowship and Genesis Sixteen. Since then, she has performed with The Sixteen, conducted by Harry Christophers and Eamonn Dougan, across the UK, Australia, and Singapore.

Her extensive ensemble work includes collaborations with The Sixteen, La Nuova Musica, Academy of Ancient Music, Recordare Chamber Choir, Polyphony, Southwell Festival Voices, Chamber Choir of Ireland, The Carice Singers, The Hanover Band, The Marian Consort, The Chamber Choir of London and The English Concert. Danni is also co-founder of the Recordare Chamber Choir, alongside conductor Harry Bradford and soprano Kirsty O’Neill.

As a soloist, Danni has performed in many prestigious venues including The Barbican Theatre, Teatro Argentina in Rome, Berliner Festspiele, Royal Festival Hall, Royal Albert Hall, St John’s Smith Square, Kings Place, Southwell Minster, Manchester Cathedral and Canterbury Cathedral. Recent solo engagements include Handel’s Dixit Dominus with Instruments of Time and Truth and Edward Higginbottom, Messiah with Manchester Baroque in Manchester Cathedral, Bach’s St John Passion at Southwell Minster, and St Matthew Passion with Bradford Festival Chorus.

Her opera credits include Peasblossom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Royal Academy Opera), Nanetta in Verdi’s Falstaff (RAO Opera Scenes), Lucette in Massenet’s Cendrillon (VF Opera Scenes), and Phyllis in Iolanthe (Love Opera & Green Opera’s online G&S production directed by Eleanor Burke). During lockdown, she contributed numerous learning tracks for Run by Singers and The Self Isolation Choir.
